The use of drones for measurements of air quality promises a very high degree of flexibility with regard to the location and choice of measuring instruments, as well as rapid deployment. The miniaturization of the measurement technology allows mobile particulate matter monitors with comparable performance, but so small and light that they are suitable for installation in carrier systems or portable.
With the Fidas Fly 200 particulate matter module on the HORUS drone, pollutant concentrations can be recorded along a predetermined route or at specific points within an area.
Even hours of stationary measurements at one point can be made using a wired flight.
The fine dust module uses the recognized measuring technique of optical light scattering on the single particle. The calibration is very simple and is carried out on site and also between individual measurements.
With a particle size range of 0.18 - 18 μm and a volume flow of 1.4 l / min, mass fractions PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10, PMtotal or the alveolar, thoracic and inhalable mass fractions can be determined according to DIN EN 481. In addition, it is possible to determine the particle number concentration and the particle size distribution in up to 64 size classes in the particle size range of 0.18-18 μm or 0.5-40 μm.

A successful campaign also includes meteorological data of the position. The parallel use of a weather station or detailed data from adjacent stations is therefore essential. Due to the complexity of the usual measuring methods, which can also record only punctual measurement data, the innovative and proven system represents an alternative. The possibilities and limitations of this technique are currently being tested for other applications by us constantly.
