Can I install the PRS myself, or does the drone have to be sent in?

You install the Parachute Recovery System (PRS) yourself — in less than 2 minutes and without a workshop visit. Dronavia provides video installation tutorials as well as a user and operating manual. The Flight Termination System (FTS), however, requires the drone to be opened and is installed by qualified personnel — the drone must be sent in for this purpose.

How quickly does the parachute deploy in an emergency?

The autonomous deployment module activates the parachute in less than 0.27 seconds. By comparison, a human reaction typically takes around 3 seconds. The system automatically detects critical situations such as altitude loss, collisions or abrupt changes in angle.

What do I need to consider before DJI Care or a repair?

Before any DJI Care service, maintenance service or repair, the system must first be uninstalled. To do this, you must send the drone back to Dronavia beforehand.

Dronavia Kronos M4 Parachute Recovery System for DJI Matrice 4 E/T — PRS + FTS with Installation

The Dronavia Kronos M4 is a parachute recovery system with an integrated Flight Termination System for the DJI Matrice 4E and Matrice 4T. It combines an autonomous Parachute Recovery System (PRS) in accordance with MoC Light-UAS.2512 (M2) with an internally installed Flight Termination System (FTS) in accordance with MoC Light-UAS.2511. This upgrades the Matrice 4 from Class C2 to Class C5 and provides access to the standard scenarios STS-01 and STS-02 as well as SORA and PDRA authorisations. In the event of an uncontrolled crash, the system reduces the consequences for third parties and the drone; payload and RTK functionality remain fully available.

Scope of delivery and technical features

The PRS automatically detects critical flight situations — including sudden altitude loss, collisions or abrupt changes in angle — and deploys the parachute in less than 0.27 seconds. By comparison, typical human reaction time is around 3 seconds. The parachute can also be deployed manually using the supplied click remote control. The system reaches its full effectiveness from an altitude of 20 metres; below this height, it remains automatically locked to prevent false deployments close to the ground.

Using an SDK module, the system is automatically activated at take-off and deactivated on landing. As it is powered by the drone, its operating time is unlimited. After deployment, the system can be made ready for use again within a few minutes by replacing the Kronos Mini POD — the same POD is also used with the Kronos systems for Mavic 3 and Mavic 4.

Installation

The pilot installs the PRS themselves in less than 2 minutes, without a workshop visit. The FTS, on the other hand, is installed internally in the drone and may only be installed by qualified personnel; the drone must be sent in for this purpose. Once installed, the FTS interrupts the power supply to the motors if the drone threatens to leave a predefined flight area. Dronavia provides video installation tutorials and a user manual.

Important: Before any DJI Care service, maintenance or repair, the system must be uninstalled by Dronavia. The drone must be sent in for this purpose.

Suitable for regulated and safety-critical operations

The Kronos M4 is designed for commercial operators using the DJI Matrice 4E/T in the specific category, over populated areas or near critical infrastructure — for example, in building inspection, surveying, thermography or operations by public authorities and emergency services. For operators required to demonstrate C5 compliance, SORA-compliant risk mitigation or an authority-mandated FTS installation, the system provides a practical solution.
