In combination with the DJI AP100 Parachute, the Matrice 400 meets the operational safety requirements of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) C5/C6 and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) UK5/UK6. The system facilitates compliance with Standard Scenarios (STS), including flights over densely populated urban areas (STS-01) and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) operations (STS-02).
Safety self-check, dual-redundant system
Continuous self-diagnosis
From the moment the Matrice 400 is switched on and throughout the entire flight, the parachute continuously monitors the status of the gas generator and communication links. If an anomaly occurs, real-time warnings are displayed via the Health Management System (HMS) in DJI Pilot 2, ensuring safe operation.
Intelligent algorithms, redundancy checks
Equipped with an independent flight control system and sensors such as the IMU, the parachute functions as an independent safety module. Intelligent algorithms continuously compare data between the drone and the parachute in real time, significantly reducing the risk of unintended deployment.
Independent power supply
Integrated dual capacitors provide an independent backup power supply for up to 1 hour. This ensures uninterrupted attitude monitoring and automatic deployment without relying on the aircraft's main power supply or an active E-Port connection.
Immediate motor shutdown
Upon deployment, an independent Flight Termination System (FTS) disconnects the motor power supply and stops the rotors within 600 ms before the parachute deploys, preventing entanglement.
Audible and visual alarms
After deployment, the system continuously emits loud audible warning signals and activates high-intensity flashing lights for approximately 1 hour. This warns people on the ground to clear the area and enables the operator to quickly locate and recover the equipment.

Automatic deployment
The system deploys automatically when it detects anomalies in attitude or speed 1. In the EU, the
United Kingdom and other supported countries or regions, it also deploys when the
drone crosses a geocaging limit defined in DJI Pilot 2.
Manual deployment
Deploy the system using the slider on the display in DJI Pilot 2. In the EU, the United Kingdom and
in other supported countries or regions, remote deployment is also possible via the
Flight Termination System (FTS) page of DJI FlightHub 21e using the aircraft SN and a verification code
(DJI Cellular Dongle 2 110) and 4G required).
Lightweight, fits in the drone case
Lightweight design
At approximately 935 g, the system does not affect the Matrice 400's maximum takeoff mass of 15.8 kg and reduces flight time by only approximately 6 minutes.
Easy storage
The rear-mounted design does not obstruct battery replacement or payloads. The Matrice 400 fits directly into its transport case with the parachute installed, reducing setup time at the operating site.
Designed for demanding environments
Maintaining the Matrice 400's IP55 protection rating, the system operates reliably under demanding conditions, including heavy dust or rain. It also delivers stable performance at temperatures from -20 °C to 50 °C, providing consistent results in both hot and cold conditions.
