How does a typical DJI Dock 3 operation work?
A typical operation is planned, monitored and managed via DJI FlightHub 2.
- The drone takes off automatically from the dock.
- It carries out the planned task, such as inspection or mapping.
- It then returns automatically to the dock.
- The dock recharges it and prepares it for the next operation.
- Data can be transferred to cloud servers via the internet connection and evaluated there or locally after download.

What role does DJI FlightHub 2 play in dock operations?

Recurring flight routes can be prepared for regular inspections or surveying tasks. DJI FlightHub 2 also allows you to manage and coordinate multiple docks remotely.
What requirements does the dock have at the operating site?
The DJI Dock 3 serves as a fixed takeoff, landing and charging platform for outdoor operations.
A typical setup consists of a Dock 3 with a power supply and LAN connection in the field. The technical data specifies an input voltage of 100 to 240 V AC and an adaptive Ethernet connection with 10/100/1000 MBit/s.
The dock protects the drone between missions and prepares it for the next operation.
Which permits are relevant for operation?
Automated operations with a dock system generally require authorisation, particularly when flights beyond direct visual line of sight are planned.
Operations generally take place in the “specific” category under EASA. This requires a SORA, and flight authorisation is granted by the German Federal Aviation Authority or the relevant state aviation authority.
The complete package takes this legal aspect into account and combines hardware, software, training and an operating license into an operationally focused setup.
Does the drone still require maintenance and monitoring when operated with the dock?
Yes. The drone flight must be monitored while the drone is airborne.
Regular pre-flight checks are also required. DJI specifies maintenance after certain flight hours and after 12, 24 and 36 months; this can be carried out by a certified service provider such as Airclip.
