DJI Matrice 400 (C6) Combo – The Matrice 400 with integrated AP100 parachute
The DJI Matrice 400 (C6) Combo combines the Matrice 400 enterprise drone with the factory-integrated AP100 parachute system. This combination enables operators to meet the demanding safety requirements of class C6 (EU/EASA) – prerequisites that are particularly relevant for complex operations such as beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights under standard scenario STS-02.
The AP100 parachute
The DJI AP100 is a rear-mounted safety module weighing approximately 935 grams. It features an independent power supply and a fully redundant system design, is IP55-certified and can therefore also be operated in dusty and rainy conditions. In an emergency, the system first stops the motors and then deploys the parachute – the complete automatic response time is no more than 600 milliseconds. When deployed from a height of at least 30 metres, the Matrice 400 is decelerated to a stabilised descent rate of no more than 5 m/s. The system therefore meets the MOC 2511/2512 declarations of conformity (EASA Flight Termination System and Ground Risk Mitigation respectively) as well as the F3322 certification for parachute systems for small unmanned aircraft.
C5 vs. C6 – an important difference
It is important to distinguish between subsequent and factory certification: if the AP100 is subsequently mounted on an existing Matrice 400, the combination meets the requirements of class C5/UK5 (STS-01, VLOS operations over densely populated areas). The higher C6/UK6 classification – required for STS-02 and therefore for BVLOS operations – is reserved exclusively for factory-certified systems. This is precisely where the C6 Combo comes in: only purchasing the DJI Matrice 400 (C6) Combo with the factory-integrated AP100 guarantees C6 approval.
Applications
The combination of the M400 and AP100 opens up new, more regulatory-complex fields of application for operators: flights over densely populated urban areas (STS-01) and missions beyond the pilot’s visual line of sight (STS-02, BVLOS). The Combo package is therefore aimed primarily at professional users in areas such as infrastructure inspection, surveying, public safety and industrial projects that require complex flight operations in urban or difficult-to-monitor environments.
