How do you recognise restricted areas (ED-R)?

On ICAO charts, red outlines indicate airspaces that may not be flown in without permission to ascend. These are known as flight restriction areas. Temporary restrictions can be viewed on the AIS portal of DFS (German Air Traffic Control).
The "Droniq" app is also recommended. This is structured like the ICAO map. It is not legally binding, but contains sufficient information to rule out operating bans.
