What does the DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung) general ruling say about control zones at aerodromes?

For control zones at airports, DFS has issued a general clearance for the ascent of model aircraft and UAS up to a height of 50 metres above ground or water.

However, this general clearance only applies if you observe the following DFS requirements when flying UAS and model aircraft:

  • The ascent of model aircraft and UAS is only permitted in visual weather conditions (cloud base 1,500 ft, visibility at least 5 km),
  • not in formation or autonomously,
  • not close to emergency operation areas.

Further information on this can be found in NfL-2023-1-2705.
