What is NfL (news for pilots)?

Nachrichten für Luftfahrer, NfL for short, is the official gazette for aviation in Germany. They are published by Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH. Official gazettes are used to publicise legal requirements.

Among other things, the NfL describe procedures for the granting of licences and the approval of exemptions for the operation of unmanned aircraft in accordance with Section 21 a and b of the German Air Traffic Regulations (LuftVO). They also serve to simplify and standardise the procedure for obtaining an ascent permit. They also contain specifications for the possible use of drones, such as exceptions to operating bans in compliance with the 1:1 rule or the external lighting required for flights at night. It also indicates when a licence is required, such as for take-off weights over 25 kg.
