When is proof of knowledge sufficient for model aircraft pilots?

If you intend to use a drone weighing over 2 kg exclusively for private purposes , then at least a certificate of proficiency in accordance with Section 21a (4) LuftVO is required outside of model flying areas.

This certificate can be obtained from air sports associations authorised by the Federal Ministry of Transport. As with the drone licence, knowledge of the basics of the use and navigation of model aircraft, the legal basis and the local airspace regulations must also be demonstrated in an examination. The validity period of the proof of knowledge is also 5 years and costs €25 plus 7% VAT, i.e. a total of €26.75, in accordance with the official fee schedule binding for the DMFV.

If you also use your drone commercially, then the proof of knowledge according to § 21e is not sufficient. For this you need a certificate in accordance with LuftVO § 21d from a body recognised by the Federal Aviation Office, such as Airclip Service GmbH & CO KG. Further information can be found in our training programmes.
