What is ADS-B?

ADS-B is used under the name "AirSense" in the Enterprise drones (Mavic Enterprise and Matrice series) from DJI. As a drone pilot, this enables you torecognise approaching aircraft and helicopters at an early stage. ADS-B stands for Automatic Dependet Surveillance Broadcast and is installed as standard in most manned aircraft. The system continuously transmits the current position, speed and some other information to its environment on a specific frequency (= broadcast). Other participants - e.g. us drone pilots - can receive the transmitted signals and get an up-to-date picture of the traffic situation.

We recommend the system above all to frequent flyers who often operate in unfamiliar areas and at high altitudes (< 90 m). From our own experience, we can say that helicopters and small aircraft are not always recognised early enough. Unfavourable wind and deadline pressure at the location are just two possible causes. DJI AirSense can take some of the burden off your shoulders by giving you early warning of approaching helicopters. Invest in the safety of your own company and the safety of man-carrying aviation!
